Questions about Pre-Employment Drug Testing Answered

What if I don’t have a driver’s license?
Photo identification is required when submitting to a drug test. A passport or non-drivers ID would also work as an acceptable substitute. If you don’t have either of these, you must bring in your birth certificate, or social security card. The Collector will have to take a picture of you, and send it to your employee representative for confirmation.

Who gets the test results?
Although you are providing the urine or hair sample for your pre-employment drug screen, you will not be directly informed of your test results. To put it simply, your employer requested the test, paid for the test, and therefore will be the one to receive the test results. Any questions related to your results should be directed to your employer.

How long will it take to get results?
Urine tests take approximately 2 business days, while hair follicle tests take roughly 5 business days. This process can be held up an extra day or two if prescription verification is required.

If I drank alcoholic beverages the night before my test, will it show up in my results?
The most common types of pre-employment urine and hair follicle tests do not test for alcohol, and therefore won’t show up on your test results. However, to be on the safe side, we recommend that you refrain from drinking three days prior to your test just in case.

What if I refuse to take the test?
Your employer will be informed that you refused to take the test, and it will be up to their discretion in term of what actions they wish to take.
